Princess Marie of Baden was a member of the Baden Grand Ducal Family and was born on August 26, 1817. She was the daughter of Grand Duke Leopold of Baden and Princess Sophie of Sweden.
In 1834, Princess Marie married Prince Wilhelm of Prussia, who later became known as Emperor Wilhelm I of Germany. They had eight children together, including Prince Friedrich III, who briefly served as Emperor of Germany.
Princess Marie was known for her charitable work, particularly with the Red Cross. She also supported women's education, advocating for more opportunities for women to pursue higher education.
After her husband's death in 1888, Princess Marie continued to be active in her charitable work until her own death on April 17, 1889, in Berlin.
